  • TMD Supporter

Love seeing Magus of the Future back on the scene!!!!

  • This meta is sooo much better. @brianpk80 How was telling time? And is 13 lands the correct amount in your deck? Since your not a combo deck per se, is chain of vapor as good as say Fragmentize, since I assume its mainly used to bounce a stony/rod, moat or sphere most times? Has chain ever lead to wins, saccing lands to bounce moxen etc etc with such a low land count? Just curious as you have no disenchant efx. Good job.

    Good questions.

Telling Time is nice. It's like having Preordains that can't be Misstepped which let you keep Drain up or use them in Flusterstorm battles on the opponent's turn. People asked about the comparison to Impulse and my thoughts on the contrast are that Impulse shines more when you are looking for one specific card; Oath of Druids is the premiere example. In these Paradoxical lists, you usually want certain conjugations of pieces, not simply one. For instance, you may have a lonely Ruby on the table and no Paradox in hand, play Impulse and find Mana Crypt, Strand, Mental Misstep, Paradox. If you take the Mana Crypt, you're left waiting for the next Paradox. If you take the Paradox, it's still rather unimpressive at 1 target, so you just Impulsed for Force fodder. With Telling time, you tend more towards seeing the artifact (or Trinket Mage) + the Paradox and can keep both. Also, when using as land-finders, you get to choose a business spell to going along with it. It's an early game comprehensive set up card more than a "find this one particular bomb" function. Given Impulse's role in finding one particular bomb, it would seem pretty unimpressive to "Impulse for 4 and pick Polluted Delta." That's why the TT's function is better suited to what Paradox decks like to do (assemble the dual prongs of critical mass + Outcome).

13 land feels like the right amount. 14 floods a bit too often. I go up to 16 land when need be post-sb.

As for CoV, the 75 is on a 3x Hurkyl's, Ancient Tomb, & Steel Sab plan so Chain of Vapor is certainly not for Rods and Spheres. This list is not the kind that wants to Fragmentize a Foundry Inspector or single lock piece and buy another turn under 2 more Spheres/Rod. Bounce it all to hell and go over the top. It's more for non-artifact nuisances that come up like Kambal, Scab Clan Berserker, Consecrated Sphinx, Arcane Lab, Thalia, etc. V. Stony Silence Mentor, I might board one in, but I also board out Opal, Explosives, and 1 Paradox so while they overprepare for Outcome, instead of fighting Stony tooth and nail, I lean on it and other artifacts less.

  • Samantha's list is missing Lotus, Ruby, Sapphire, and Dack Fayden.

They were really great cards since I played against Shops 4/5 matches. I would hate to exclude them. :)

  • Update: We played the finals on MTGO where Brian crushed me. Congrats Brian. Also my deck is just boring Jeskai Mentor, not Paradoxical Mentor.

    Thanks for hosting Shawn!

  • @diophan any chance it was recorded?

Just curious: played just for fun, or for stakes?

  • @BazaarOfBaghdad

For the title, no stakes involved.
