Vintage Challenge - 5/22/17
@desolutionist I also went 4-2 with Vault/Key. :)
So did I. But only won one game because of it :p
Looks like WotC has posted MTGO decklists for the last two days, but the Challenges are nowhere to be found
Anyone know anything about this?
@ChubbyRain Question on your data in the tags section... It shows Vault/Key as only one deck, with 0 wins and 4 losses. I ran vault/key and went 8-1. I don't think the data pull worked correctly for individual cards?
@diophan does the tags (It helps with consistency, IMO). He may have reserved the Vault/Key tag for more Turbo Vault-Key decks like the X City Vault variants, but other than that, I don't have an explanation for you.
@ChubbyRain How'd you find this? Guessed the URL?
edit: nevermind; the challenges finally appeared on the results list page.

@mourningpalace You were not unlucky. You can open them and get way ahead but it is not normal. Goatbots on their website has the EV of them. The EV is 2.23 and you can sell them for more then that. You are literally throwing away value by opening them, unless you value the thrill of playing the lottery.
I'm not entirely up to speed on the machinations of a devil like MTGO but I recall hearing something to the effect of there being attempts to balance the Treasure Chests out more and that having been more successful. I open them when streaming since both the audience and I enjoy the fun of it. More often than not, since I heard of them changing the allocations, the opened EV exceeds what would be expected from selling them. It's safer and more straightforward to convert them into tickets, though I would say that the choice to open them isn't without merit and isn't quite indicative of a lottery/gambling issue. :-D
I was probably too harsh. I do love opening them. I find it really fun. I meant more to push back on the narrative that you just open straight money by doing it.
You lose about 20 cents EV in opening the Treasure Chests. It depends on the person but some might value the thrill more than that 20 cents. I know I enjoy opening them especially on stream, but that's just me and I might be biased given I just opened a Tarmogoyf 15 seconds ago from 1v1 Commander chest.
Apologies for the lack of vault key tags. The tags weren't filled in until I made quick guesses as to the correct tags. An oversight on my part for sure on the thieves lists, but note that it there's a lot of variability in decklists.
I appreciate everyone pointing out the mistags and I'll recheck through the posted decklists as soon as I can stop using a cell phone for internet later this week.
