Eternal masters roughly one month away, where's the hype (and further spoilers)?
-
Eternal Masters is turning out to be pretty decent, all things considered...
-
It looks very fun to play in Limited. The commons/uncommons so far have been pretty good, and that will add long term value to the packs.
But the rares/mythics are very weak. We knew about Wasteland and Force of Will. I think most of us were expecting Karakas, but not as a mythic. Balance, Necropotence, Worldgorger Dragon are all really terrible mythic rares to open. Jace and Dack both being in the set was a little unexpected, and there are a few nice rares getting reprinted like Sensei's Top and Sylvan Library but all in all, I'm very underwhelmed with it.
The set needs cards from Portal 3 kingdoms. They appear to be absent from the list.
There is value in this set right now, because prices haven't adjust. But expect to see a lot of cards like Foil Force of Will $800 at the beginning of the year, $350 today. Gamble $35 to $15, and still a lot lower to go. The "value" in the set is going to errode very fast, especially with cards that aren't played in old school.
Maelstrom Wanderer is a great example of the idiocy of Wizards. Here is a hated commander. It's one of the most powerful ones in Multiplayer and French, the card was $20, and they decide to print more of them at Mythic. Why? There's already 2 printings of this card. Why the hell is it in this set? How does printing more of these improve the eternal formats, or EDH for that matter.
Rishidan Port, Misdirection, and Unmask are cards that need to be included in this set for MODO purposes only. Where are they?

Vindicate. Wrath of God. Hymn to Tourach. Natural Order. Nev Disk.
Sorry, I know some people are disappointed, but I can't wait to draft this set. It's going to be like opening packs of my youth!
-
@joshuabrooks Agree on the point about it feeling like back in the good old days.... still need Craw Wurm though. Best card ever when you started out, I mean six power!!!
-
@kistrand first (starter) pack ever opened had force of nature and royal assassin, Bayou player from the start

I agree with the mythics... they leave a lot to be desired, but I wasnt even expecting Jace, let alone Dack. Necro is probably the worst mythic. Not only is it a worthless pull for anyone playing Legacy, but Necro is readily available and the new art sucks. So far, I've been surprised and rather stoked with what they've put into the rare slots. Altogether, the list is pretty good thus far, minus the mythics. I can't be frustrated about one or two cards when so much of what I need to nab will be in these packs.

@Juggernaut-GO hehe nice. I would not, however, had understood back then that Royal Assassin was any good but an 8/8 creature on the other hand... now you're talking
-
This entire set is cranking my Masters "Block Constructed" commander deck up to the next level.
-
Wait...squadron hawk as a common and multiple cascade effects being re-printed!!!! Have not played limited since Mirrodin (Viridian Longbow, how ya doin?), but I will be participating in as many drafts as possible for EM.

Those were two of the most feared cards back in the Revised era, at least in my neck of the woods!
Argothian Enchantress as the last green mythic....pretty lame.
-
Mark Tedin just changed his profile pic to Mana Drain.... wouldn't that be sweet.
-
@rikter I know, we did realize the power of the assassin later on but in the beginning it was Craw Wurm, Shivan Dragon and Vesuvan Doppelganger all the way. Oh the memories.....
-
Mana Drain as a rare and Berserk as a rare would be nice.

THE TEXT!!! I'm so happy this is amazing.

-
Strange -- so they changed the text on Winter Orb to work the way that it used to, but the oracle text has not been updated. If they don't update it before the release, wouldn't we have to play the card according to the oracle text?

It should be updated tomorrow, I am pretty sure, once the whole new set gets loaded into Gatherer.

@SamuelA I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I first saw it spoiled! This will change the 93/94 landscape forever.

@Aaron-Patten weren't most events playing with that special errata anyway tho? I guess this at least makes it required across the board...
