Eternal Weekend North America 2019 - Oct 31-Nov 3 - Pittsburgh, PA

∀x∃yF(x,y)

x = Recurring Vintage event
y = Vintage player
F(x,y) = "y is disappointed with how x is being run this year."

@mike-noble I'm sorry I want to know the details of an event prior to it happening. I guess I'll go and fuck myself.

I mean I knew it was happening on that weekend a long time ago and booked rooms out of fear of a Steelers home game. I guess what additional details were needed for most people? I can see being pissed if they announced that Vintage would be on Thursday or something wacky but that hasn't happened. If the art on the playmat was the make or break for anybody they are going for the wrong reasons.

Edit: go fuck yourself

I have no idea if any of this hate is directed at me. Maybe I need to know before I can retribute any fucks given 🐷
But just wanted to make clear I don't care whatever single elim or Modern, etc. I'll be there anyway. Just don't like sharing one of the only Eternal events in the year with the most popular constructed format in the game, that has tons of tournaments and GPs every time. If that's something they had to do to keep the event relevant, that's alright with me though.

Austin will be sending 6 mages to Pittsburgh. We're currently designing our shirts for the event, and as my tokens arrived in the mail last week, I'm feeling confident in our style points this year.

What’s the deal with single elimination?

Is it just because they can turn and burn more tourneys, or do people enjoy the knockout format?

@joshuabrooks It's cheaper at $20/pop as opposed to $30/pop last year which helps people grinding for Byes. But it it unfortunate for those of us that just want to get as much sanctioned vintage in during the weekend as possible 😞

I think this is a more typical setup for bye producing last minute tourneys, outside of ew.

Edit: Math is easy, reading is hard.

@mike-noble from my own admission of "play as much as possible" your analysis is correct (though I hope I don't get pummeled that much). I guess I just can't rationalize paying $20 to potentially play a single round.

EDIT:
One nit-picking detail about your model, there are only five vintage trials Thursday not seven. So it's $100 for 5-10 rounds (assuming it's impossible to get to round 3 and still register for every event).
Last year had Four 5-round Swiss events, and you could easily register and play in two to their entirety for $60.

@tittliewinks22 I did all that math and spreadsheet creation and didn’t even bother to look at the trial formats. Typical idiot me.

Edit: Now that I can properly read, the new trials setup might be due to space or staffing concerns with having a third format of players at the event, and one that is larger worldwide than the other two. Single elimination frees up seats and judges.

Most people dropped the swiss ones anyone because they were primarily interested in signing up for the next one and earning a bye.

So people are paying $10 less for what they were already doing. Neat.

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

Vintage 5k was dropped last year, and this year is there side events/Play All Weekend? It appears the side events will be trials on Thursday, and then only draft and Commander...

edit: Ahh, there is a note to check back for complete side event schedule.

The next B&R update has been rescheduled to 21 October, ten days before Eternal Weekend

Update:

We can confirm that, yes! We won’t be making any changes in Vintage at that time due to the proximity of Eternal Weekend.
