[CN2] Leovold, Emissary of Trest

    More expensive, less easy to cast Spirit of the Labyrinth. Works only for the opponent though, and has a relevant second ability. Thoughts?

  • I think this is leagues above spirit. It is blue so right there, but being one sided, draws you a card when they try to remove it, 2 more toughness, it is all relevant.

    For a different deck of course, but still.

  • Great card that is done in by not having
    Much synergy with the card best used to cast multicolor creatures, Cavern of Souls. If this was a human or wizard/spirit/Eldrazi/Merfolk/etc, it would be a Vintage staple. Being an Elf Advisor really puts a damper on how much play this will see.

  • This will be played in Vintage/Legacy BUG lists. Card is great, but it is expensive to cast with the 3 specific mana demand.

  • This card will see a ton of play in BUG. For everyone claiming BUG can't keep up with Mentor (despite having all the black tools to crush it) here you go. This card is amazing at maintaining card parity, comes down off DRS (after you Misstep their Misstep that Misstepped your DRS). If they plow you draw, if they karakas you draw. Lastly 3 toughness is the new two, attacking through Revokers/Bears and surviving Sudden Shock.

  • Most BUG decks run 4 Dr. Shaman who also happens to be an elf and taps for any color of mana. I think turn 1 fetch dr. Shaman into turn 2 this guy is gonna become a very common play.

  • Second ability is incredibly broad. Getting a free card draw off being Wastelanded definitely takes some of the sting out of it.

  • It's a 3 mana 3/3. That's solid

    I think you are on to something. This card and [CN2] Sanctum Prelate could be an indicator that Mentor will not get restricted, but hopefully will be weakened by these two cards.

  • You get to draw a card when Oath triggers or if someone Duresses you

  • rayne academy chancellor and spirit of the lab's baby -- definitely see this getting played

  • This will see play in vintage. BUG and maybe even some new style decks.

  • I am disappointed that it isn't a human but Elf isn't he WORST creature type in the world for cavern. Time to brew some sort of Elf-Control Vintage deck :).

    And for each Orchard activation. And for each copy of Tendrils. As someone who played Rayne in Vintage recently, this card seems awesome. It's just a matter of picking out the best Gush deck for it.

    BTW, this card isn't going to bring back BUG Fish. Only a Gush restriction will do that. :/

    This is nuts. Finding flusterstorm(s) to counter tendrils is trivial with this guy out.

    Also, for all the people doubting Cavern, is DRS and this guy not enough to at least get the ball rolling for Cavern on Elves?

  • @structuremole Good start! Good finish?

  • @structuremole
    @ChubbyRain
    @desolutionist

    how many cards would you draw if you got tendrils for 18 copies?

  • @snowydude You play Magic Online, right? Each time you click "Same Target", you are putting a copy of Tendrils on the stack targeting your opponent. So he or she would draw 18 cards.

  • So wait I get to draw for each tendrils copy? Whats the step by step on that stack?

  • All the storm copies go on the stack at the same time right? So you'd draw for the original, then the storm trigger happens, then you draw for all the copies.

    1. Player A plays Tendrils of Agony targeting Player B who controls Leovold.
    2. The Storm ability of Tendrils triggers along with Leovold's second ability. Player A is the active player so he puts the ability on the stack first, then Player B puts Leovold's ability on the stack. He will get the opportunity to draw a card when that ability resolves.
    3. Then, the Storm ability resolves. Player A puts X copies of Tendrils on the stack with the option to choose different targets.
    4. Each Tendrils copy is a spell that targets Player B so Leovold will trigger X times.
    5. Stack is now Tendrils of Agony (Original), X Tendrils of Agony Copies, and X Leovold triggers.
    6. Assuming nothing changes and the game doesn't end, the stack resolves as usual with the Leovold triggers resolved, then the Tendrils copies, then the original Tendrils.
