Suicide Shops Mini-Report: Denton, Tx - January 21st

On January 21st I joined 9 other brave souls for our quarterly post-set release Vintage tournament at Madness Comics in Denton, Texas.

My psuedo-report is all from memory (though the decklists are not) I piloted what I was calling Suicide Shops, the decklist will be below.

Round 1 was Darryl on Shops. He was running Walking Ballista (I am still undecided on this card) [1-0]
Game 1 I got an early Fleetwheel Cruisre down and gleefully made "Vroom" noises while running Darryl down with my cars.
Game 2 was more of the same (although the sound effects may have gotten louder)

Round 2 was a pair down to Richard on Blue Belcher. [2-0]
Game 1 Belcher did what Belcher does and I died.
Game 2 and 3 I brought in Null Rods. Between those and the Phyrexian Revokers I managed to overrun Richard with robots.

Round 3 was Larry on Oath. [3-0]
Unfortunately Larry had some mulligan issues. Sadly he never even got to Oath up a Griselbrand.

Round 4 was my only loss to Nick on Blue Moon [3-1]
Nick and I could have drawn this to get us both into the top 4, but after doing the math we realized we were both in the top 4 regardless. Plus I came to play Vintage so off to battle we went!
I don't recall if I took Game 1 or 2, Nick took the other.
Game 3 I had a Needle Beetle that managed to get Nick down to 3 life. Then I made an egregious error by casting something (a Fleetwheel maybe?) which Nick promptly Mana Drained. Thus giving him the mana to promptly cast a Consecrated Sphinx. This allowed Nick to take Game 3 and top seed going into the top 4.

The top 4 then decied to split the $244 in store credit and go our seperate ways.

any thoughts to share on the deck and especially 4 metamorph/2 colossus?

@CwaM I was expecting a field of Stoney Silence Mentor and Paradox Storm.

The 4 Phyrexian Metamorphs were there so that I could copy a Fleetwheel Cruiser and get the trigger to be able to craash into my opponent.

The Metalwork Colossus was just a test replacement for Arcbound Ravager since I was running Null Rods in the sideboard. It didn't really do much during the day, but mostly because the game was over before it could be cast. I was able to cast it once but I think it died in short order that game.

Null Rod was a choice that everyone was surprised by. It won me game 2 against Belcher; helped slow down Blue Moon, and shut off my round 1 opponent's Arcbound Ravagers and Walking Ballistas.

I do plan on tweaking the list some more and will hopefully have some more insight soon.

@infant_no_1 i'm more suprised you are not running those MD if you were expecting many storms as they will also be effective against Shop mirrors 🙂

I considered it, but chose to try it this way. I think next time I may run them main & see what happens.
