    • RE: Initiative to help save Paper Vintage

      @daniel-worobec
      I think this whole thread assumes it has to do with availability of cards and monetary investment.
      I own 8 power cards, all the blue dual lands, time vault, library of alexandria, 4 mana drains (LoA and drain aren't even good anymore, wth?) and a bunch of other expensive vintage cards. Yet I think the last time I even bothered sleeving up a vintage deck was in 2016 or so. That lasted about two weeks before I tried my hand at legacy instead which I honestly enjoyed more.

      I think the sad fact is that many of the people who own the cards and could play vintage just decide not to. That is at least the case for me. I just don't think any of the tier1 decks look fun to play with (or against for that matter). I don't really see this changing anytime soon (If ever) so i'll be sticking to oldschool formats for the foreseeable future.

      Taking a look around this forum I barely recognize any usernames either.

    • OS Vintage during Invasion block

      About a decade ago me and a group friends decided to play Type 1 (Vintage) during invasion block (2001), we played it for a month or two back then. Last year during the corona lockdown I was talking to one of them over discord and we eventually started talking about this format once again, after talking about it several times we ended up making some decks as we remembered them and started playing a few games. Eventually I came up with the idea of testing these decks in something resembling a tournament format.

      I thought some members of this community might find the results interesting, you can see them here.

      We recognize that there are a few problems with our method:

      • There is only one of each deck.

      • We shift decks rather rapidly, thus we might not play them to their maximum potential.

      There are probably other issues as well, so take the results with a grain of salt and enjoy! 🙂

      Pre-edit: Oh and a minor caveat, despite googling away for hours I've been unable to determine exactly when Illusionary mask got the errata we are using. The best i've been able to find is "Winter 2001". We just sort-of agreed that the illusionary mask + phyrexian dreadnought should work during december 2001 right before fact or fiction got restricted.
