@13nova no I relocated to Florida back in December to be with my family and for work. I had originally wanted to see if I could get people together for a going away thing but mental health got in the way (which is why I also unfortunately missed Ben Roberts' funeral). Hopefully next time I'm back up that way I'll feel up to meeting up with people.
To people advocating giving the Vintage list over to fans like EDH, this is honestly a completely different situation. EDH was a fan-created format shepherded by high level judges that Wizards adopted as a casual format. They let those people keep control over the paper version of the format (Wizards sets the online banned list) because they created the format and had input from people Wizards respect the opinions of. Wizards didn't hand the power over to fans, they just didn't muscle them out. Vintage, on the other hand, had always been under Wizards' watch (or neglect, depending on how you see it) as a recognized tournament format. They aren't about to cede control of it to the fans for that reason, they require their sanctioned formats to follow their guidelines. If EDH evolved into a fully sanctioned tournament format Wizards would almost certainly seize control of the list at that point.
@POXEVERYTURN I would think a big selling point to Norn that the Wurm doesn't have is being proactive. You can drop her to prevent an infestation of Monks from happening until they answer her, where as the Wurm needs to hit after, when it may already be too late.
@hierarchnoble said in Cards to unrestrict:
If I had access to 4 Flash I'd brew some awful Oops! deck that either cast Flash to trigger Balustrade Spy or to trigger Protean Hulk to find Balustrade Spy and Grand Abolisher.
If your goal is to brew some jank with Flash then what you should do is Flash Gamekeeper to find Emrakul, with Cabal Therapy to sacrifice Gamekeepers to keep the chain going if need be.
@desolutionist I was out during the times that deck saw play although that's not too surprising thinking about it. That card's always been sweet when you can cheat it out, albeit slow. The fact that Shops can now just kill you via Ballista or Walker is a pain though.
@desolutionist Not that I disagree with it being a viable option, but it amazes me that Vintage is in a place where Form of Dragon is a card you might play when if you had said to my younger self that Vintage would be in such a place I would have called you crazy. What a world.
What sort of targets would be wanted for Rector? Bargain/Necro seems obvious, and Steve mentioned Future Sight before, but what about something like Omniscience? While it's not as sure a win as Bargain can be it seems like will get you there with minimal support and at least will pitch to Force if stuck in your hand, as if you get the Bargain after it lets you play it for free.
@Smmenen That's where I'm at with it too, I definitely feel like it can do work, but where and how is kind of the tricky bit. Being able to pick up land to either re-use or filter away is definitely something that has proven useful in the past so it'll likely remain on my radar far longer than most draw does for potential.
I also find it ironic that the card also synergizes well with Kefnet himself, which while probably not good enough in the Mentor world tempts me as a big evasive guy for cheap that blocks most any creature Shops or Eldrazi will throw at you. I know Brian Kelly tested him briefly but the Gush restriction made turning him on unreliable. Maybe this fixes that.
