Dan Frazier's signature is just so disappointing. Of the Power 8 that I own (missing the Twister), only the Ancestral is signed. It doesn't bother me too much because at least Poole has an interesting signature, but Frazier's is just a scribble that I hate seeing.

RE: What Keeps the Fringe at the Fringe?
@wretchedcamel I think the only place he can be played might be 93/94. I had a goofy Living Plane/Tim/Instill Energy deck put together for 93/94 that was able to squeak out a few matches but only after playing the long game as a control deck. I might try again and bring it to the Eternal Central Event this year. At least i'd score a few creativity points.
RE: Team Serious Open - 2/3/18 at the POP! Shop Results
Hi Nam, this is Dan, I came in 4th after the final round, just FYI...
RE: Vintage Feelings
I'm at a point in my life where being able to play Magic is a luxury that I can't afford to do with drama involved. I deleted my Twitter account and Reddit account that I was primarily using for Magic related topics, because the Magic "culture" portrayed on those channels isn't the Magic that I encounter in real life, with this Left vs Right culture war permeating everything online. The internet of the late 90s seemed so much more exciting for us Magic players, now it's hard for me to stay interested in any social media because it so easily falls off track.
I'll stick to the Vintage Facebook group and this website, and other sites like Eternal Central for my article fix.. I mostly lurk on both of them, but at least they don't have all the drama on them (well, not as much drama, i'd say).
RE: Team Serious Open - 2/3/18 at the POP! Shop
Me and Joe (not sure he has a TMD account), will be making the drive up from Pittsburgh for this. Looking forward to some paper Vintage action!
Any ideas on when the next Berea event will be as well, so we can plan accordingly?
RE: WotC Italy threatening TOs/LGSs to pull sanctioning/WPN over the use of "playtest cards" in Eternal formats
I feel that in the future, but not sure how long, Vintage will be a player run format and none of this will matter. If Eternal Central can build a framework that puts together 120 people for what is essentially a North American championship for Old School, I see no reason why something can't be done for Vintage.
This would remove all of these concerns about "playtest cards", and an electable Board of Directors of some sort could be elected to maintain the B&R list, so we can't blame Wizards for that stuff either...
Might be 20 years from now, but I see it happening...
Weekly Proxy Vintage at Taitan Game Shop, (Near Pgh, PA)
The fine gentlemen of Taitan Game Shop in Aliquippa PA are trying to get a weekly Proxy Vintage event going. (For those in the area, this is about 30 minutes from Pgh, a few exits north of the airport).
This is being held Tuesday nights, and they have proxy decks available for those without decks. The last event had Oath take it down with a 3-0 record.
The next Event is being held Tuesday, November 21st. Entry is $10 and prizes would be store credit.
Please find them on Facebook for more details.
Unfortunately Tuesday doesn't work for me most weeks, but I'll be sure to get to any weekend events they have for Vintage.

RE: Playing Magic Online
Just play with them or sell them. Playing games with your cards double-sleeved, and shuffling carefully, isn't going to do much damage to them that would decrease the value. Unless your cards are pack fresh, you won't decrease the value a considerable amount unless you outright damage them by accident (i.e dropping them on the floor and accidentally sitting on them with your chair leg, or drunken friend spilling beer on them....)
Selling one P9 will get you into pretty much any MTGO deck of your choice, if you want to go that route as well...
RE: Eternal Weekend
@supertimland There was a Dredge player that mulliganed to 3 two times in a row and after that kept shuffling so slowly and thoroughly that he managed to make the last 10 minutes of the match into a draw before game 3 even started. I was astonished no one warned him for slow-playing and also have no idea if he got punished for his wrong mulligan. Anyone knows what happened?
EDIT: found it. Round 6, Tim Morrison is the player. (5:53:00 in this video https://go.twitch.tv/videos/183975724)
At the end of this, didn't Randy say that Tim felt so bad about it that he just gave his opponent the concession? If so, the problem solved itself in a sense. The part that baffled me is that how his opponent missed it because in the mulls to 6 and 5, he specifically stopped Tim and asked him to show his cards and was using his hands a lot, it seemed....
RE: EW Meta and discussion.
I played some of the worst magic of my life this weekend, and i am upset about that. But i had a good time even though i don't really talk to anyone and sat alone. Working on my pace. I have long played too slow and overthought decisions, took games to time for no good reason, and called out on slow play. I did very well picking up the pace this weekend and riffling through cantrips and demonic tutor and waiting patiently on removal/counters, fetching lands correct (4 colors is no walk in the park, why do i do this to myself). I did however, lose a couple handfuls of games to rushing.
@geoffc I played both the vintage 5k and the vintage challenge today (sunday). I dont remember exact numbers, but i believe there were about 75-100 on the 5k (specifically recall thinking there weren't enough $50 entries to cover $5k but i could be wrong).
Vintage challenge had 25 +/- 2.
Made the poor mistake of playing legacy champs, did not realize a couple months ago when i preregistered that i could spend all day playing vintage on saturday.
I feel you; I was so upset at how I played in Vintage champs that I dropped at 1-2; my thought going into it was to just play it out regardless of how I did but I was making horrible, novice mistakes, that I was basically embarrassed to go on. I should have stuck with White Eldrazi, which I was playing consistently up until the Thorn restriction, but made a total pivot to a new deck, worst mistake possible.
Regardless, was a great weekend, played some old school, picked up some cool cards and met some cool people, so will look forward to next year.
RE: [Premium Article] History of Vintage/Schools of Magic: 2006
I bought the "First 10 Years" but I've fallen behind. Need to get caught up soon!
RE: Eternal Weekend for the first timer
Re. 1), plan to be there all day and at least 9/10 rounds if you want to play the whole thing. This also depends on, for example, what record you'd have to make you consider dropping. I plan on staying in regardless of how poorly I'm doing, as I'm a fairly novice vintage player and am just happy for the opportunity to use my cards.
Re: 3.), all of the side events are now posted at http://www.cardtitan.com/eternal_weekend
RE: So i'm going to be buying into MTGO.
Just a tip if anyone has the funds and just wants to get into a deck quickly. If you go to the vintage results at www.mtgtop8.com, you can see what the cost of the decks will be for MTGO, as they link directly to cardhoarder.com. You can then place an entire deck in your cart just by clicking the cardhoarder button, instead of picking and choosing and/or trading directly within MTGO.
It will show that they are out of inventory occassinally, but using the price optimizer usually get all 60+15 into your cart.
This is just a quick way to get into the deck if you have $600-$1,000 to drop in one sitting, but also gives you a quick temperature of what the decks will cost to trade in and out of.
RE: The Reserve List - The Reddest Red Herring
The funny thing about Maro's comment, is that anything he says can probably have an ending of "...at this time.", added to it. There are things that my company does every day, that I recall someone at some point saying we'd never do or have interest in doing. I've been at my current employer for almost 15 years now growing from about 700 employees to over 3,500 at this time, and any time a new regime takes over at the exec level, there are new sets of thinking that take place to change the direction we're going in.
At some point in my lifetime, they will reprint those cards. Whether they are Yu-gi-oh size or landscape format or something odd, it will happen.
RE: White Eldrazi
Wanted to cc: in a quote from @JACO in another thread, for reference: The far more devastating effect of the Thorn of Amethyst restriction is to White Eldrazi. Thorn + Thalia was the basis for that deck to begin with, so I think now is the time for those White Eldrazi decks to widely adopt Null Rod/Stony Silence, as well as fully integrate Sanctum Prelate in to their builds, and change their manabase slightly to accommodate the necessary change. I played a fair amount of Prelate in the end of 2016 and early 2017 (in both Eldrazi and Junk Hatebears decks), and it is as good as advertised, if you can cast it on time.
When I last played the deck pre-ban, I had gone down to 3 Temples and upped the basic Plains count to 5, in addition to the 2 Karakas, for non-Cavern white mana sources.
Is it time to start playing Caves of Koilos in the deck as well since there is still some synergy with the Eldrazi colorless requirement? If so, is 2, too many? I hadn't thought of the Sanctum Prelate option to this point but it's such a great idea (if it can be cast consistently), although a turn slower than you would often want to be.
