You will get plowed. Probably even twice. Build your deck in such a way that it can handle it. Use 5 colors and use all the power you can get. I recognize all the comments being made here, I experienced the same issues and came to the same conclusions (1-2 years ago....). It is as if I am reading my own reflections through all the posters.

Make the jump to a more powered and flexible approach. Expand the card pool and start using Sensei Top and Tutors 🙂

Since any Human deck should run flyers anyway to win any race, Magus of the Moat might be interesting to slow down Eldrazi. Just an idea, haven't seen the latest lists.

I do think that Thalia has a place in each of the Human subtypes. I usually run all moxen and a Mana Crypt to power out a Thalia Thraben. Now there will be openings with turn one Thalia Cathar. Very strong and most likely game ending in a deck that can capitalize on that huge advantage early on.

@Uvatha It plays out differently, the card choices are completely different with the exception of some creatures. A more controlling deck needs to go wide and has a lot of powerful 1 offs in combination with tutors. Also in a hatebear list you will see less acceleration in the form of moxen. A classical hatebear list does not run the blue power, or notion thief or Dack Fayden with Sensei Top.

For me these last cards are almost no brainers, I always add them to my Human lists unless I am going for a more tempo oriented list or a more hatebear filled version. These lists always have more 4 offs to gain on consistency where they lack in flexibility.

I don't think we are even close to the climax when it comes to exploring the possibilities with all the different iterations on Humans. Just like Workshop had different styles and finesses, Humans can also be divided using the pillars of vintage. I explored Combo Humans, I did aggro control tempo (see Human Stompy thread). 5C Humans is a control deck not a hatebear deck, there is also the hatebear human version which is usually GW with or without a third splash.

The option to use all colors or stick with less colors to become a bit more stable mana base wise, the fact that the Human type does offer a lot of unique and fun creatures, I still just love it. And I don't think the power level difference between Human decks and all other decks is that big anymore. Especially when I sleeve up the 5C Human version, I run all the powerful cards myself and play it out like a keeper deck. The only difference is that I tend to use more creatures than instants/sorceries. But then again, Containment Pries and Notion Thief are instants as far as I am considered. Running all the good tutors and powerful answers like Abrupt Decay and Hurkly's Recall in combination with Regrowth makes it all the more appealing.

It seems ridiculous to me when people post comments about how 'easy' it supposedly is to design or pilot a competitive deck with disruptive creatures against a field of different powerful archetypes.

2/1 Flying for 1W is fine but this also has:

Sacrifice Selfless Spirit: Creatures you control get Indestructible until the end of turn.

I remembered the times where Oath of Ghouls was a thing. Basically this is a better Dauntless Escort. Better because I find flying and cheaper mana cost more important than the 3/3 body.

I have been reading and following but haven't gotten around to find time for my contribution. But I definitely think you people are on the right track and I like where the 'Human approach' is going. When I left the scene almost a year ago, I remember I was into this 'damage cards'. After hours of play testing I realized that cards like Pyrostatic Pillar (as an effect, they come in different forms) are what makes the Human decks tick. This is about clock fundamentally, but it isn't exactly the term I am looking for. Tarmogoyf is also clock, but it does nothing against Mentor decks for example or against any other deck really, at least not in Human shells. A card like Falkenrath Aristocrat on the other hand does matter a lot. It also adds to the clock but offers additional angles of disruption with the flying and haste. This is why I do like the idea of Mantis Rider. Also the Scab-Clan Berserker, same rhetoric. I guess what I am trying to say is that Human decks do like 'evasive clock' or 'clock that isn't limited to tap swing deal damage without any blockers in front.

So yea keep on bringing more content I love it!

I also plan on using the new Thalia in my next Human build. The card is strong on its own, but I believe there are very powerful options with that effect.
