@ChubbyRain

Holy shit dude. Talk about spewing verbal diarrhea and hatred. Your post above should be moderated and warned. But I guess they don't do that on the new TMD site. It's posts like these that cross the line and go too far.

You're a good person in real life but maybe you need to take a step back and look at what you post here before clicking submit or whatever. Good lord that was terrible.

@Smmenen I agree the metagame is already pretty well decided. I was hoping from Probe and Mentor to leave, not gush. I will continue brewing, testing, and grinding.

You cats need to settle down a little. See you guys at NYSE

Played this in a local event to finish with a 4-0 record taking first and coming home with a Tundra! 16 players came to battle in Allentown, PA @ Cloud City Games! Deck and list felt great!!!

I built this to prey on Gush token decks, shops, and eldrazi. Turns out it does just that...

People say every deck uses probe? No. Only the decks that generally cheat on Mana and sometimes oath. Probe is the last card on the list of things I brew with unless I'm sleeving up a token generator. I'm fine with probe. If people want to fill their decks with peek, that's cool. I personally hate Misstep more than anything. It would make 1 cmc removal spells vs mentor relevant again, and people would actually have to think about a counter package and not auto start with 3 or 4 Misstep. It was a terrible card in Legacy and it's a terrible card to play with in vintage.

I, being a life long landstill player, was in fact rooting for the shops pilot. There are many many reasons I was forced into this decision. I will not root for someone whom I don't think deserves it. I will not go into details here...but there are a bunch of people that feel this very same way Soly feels, that were there first hand. It's a damn shame.

I absolutely love how "The Source" legacy forums are set up. It's actually my favorite set up for furums. Moreso than this set up or the old TMD. I find it extremely easy to navigate from one deck to the next and find example deck lists within each archetype/deck because everything is separated so well and organized. I only play in legacy events a couple times a year and I find it very easy to study a metagame thanks the the source. I agree with what @diophan was saying completely. The source is a great...source...of well organized information on that format!

So a few weeks ago I played in a local legacy event winning the while event on a sweet 4c Landstill brew coming home with a time vault. I immediately thought the same deck design could win in vintage. So I tweaked the Mana base to fix moxes, and dropped 3 Brainstorm and added leos, vamp, and recall. Just some minor tweaks. Well 2 days ago I ran the deck at Top Deck Games in NJ to a top 4 finish. It was 36 players 6 rounds of swiss. I swept the Swiss going 5-0-1 (got paired down in round 5 and had to play) not losing a single game. And then I won game 1 of the top 8. So I strung off 11 straight wins which I've never done before and I found really cool.

What makes this list very similar to legacy landstill is the fact that it battles more on the board and less on the stack especially in game 1s. Historically vintage landstill has a heavy counter suite main deck. But I wanted to try fighting very fair on the stack in game 1, but have the opportunity to board in some additional counters and control measures post board. So here's the list, hope you guys enjoy. I would run this same 75 with no changes.

4c Landstill

4 Deathrite Shaman
3 Jace the Mind Sculptor
2 Snapcaster Mage
2 Leovold Emmisary of Trest

4 Standstill

T4 Dan Miller Paradox Mentor 0-2 loss

My loss in t4 was mulligan to 6 game 1 and his hand was powerful. Mulligan to 5 game 2 which had a misstep and a drain and mana but no Null Rod or Leo. I Drain into JTMS but he was still in pretty firm control and he gets me. Net $125. Had fun playing and seeing friends!!!

@Topical_Island

To be honest I haven't loved thevery new format of TMD. Maybe I got too used to the old format or maybe there's improvements to be made yet...I post more in the Facebook group "vintage magic the gathering" than I do TMD anymore.

With all that being said I will attempt to post more in here and thank you for the kind words πŸ˜›

UR LANDSTILL is well positioned vs Mentor and the metagame in general. The sideboard can also run Sulfur Elementals to put it even further over the top. Handed this list to a friend and he lost in the t4 and plowed through multiple mentor decks throughout the day!

@desolutionist said in Where is Oath right now?:

Oath is one of those decks that sounds good in theory but can be hit or miss in reality. For me the tensions are between the counter/disruption package and Oath package. You don't want to start the game with a hand that has all disruption and no Oath, you could have an Oath and a good mix of spells but no Orchards to trigger Oath, or worst of all you can have your Oath targets in your hand!

So for me, Oath is best as a "sideshow" in a deck like Storm. In Storm you aren't so heavily weighted in trying to interact with your opponent, so you're less likely to be in a situation in which you cannot do anything proactive. You have Oath as a threatening turn one play and if it's disrupted then you have Storm to fall back on. And that plan works vice versa; if they have a bunch of Spheres in play to shut down Storm, at least there is always the Oath plan.

On that same concept, perhaps Dark Depths could be another avenue? Could even deploy Loam or Crop Rotation tactics.

That's why you need at least 2 of the 3 creatures castable and need to be able to fight on multiple axis. If you can't figure out how to do that, the deck is terrible

@revengeanceful

This is basically because this site has become very unorganized and not moderated at all...or not enough.

I've often used the Source (legacy forums) as a gold standard for organization. This site isn't what it used to be on orfanization or moderation. And this less quality posting happens.

@CHA1N5 the wins with landstill oath and 2 card monte were both reported on the old TMD interface. I'm sure it'll get switched over at some point. Let me see if the card store put the results on their website which I could also link...

http://dealmeingames.com

There's a full report if you scroll down on their home page. The event happened on 2/20 and there was exactly 30 players with me beating kelly oath in the finals. And like I said it had 1 Winnower πŸ˜‰

So on 3/26, 20 players came to battle at TOGIT in NJ for a 1k event! I settled on a sweet stoneblade brew that I've been teating! Here's the list...

Stoneblade

1 Monastery Mentor
2 Snapcaster Mage
2 Vendillion Clique
3 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Batterskull
1 Umezawa’s Jitte

2 Dack Fayden
2 Jace the Mind Sculptor

1 Sudden Shock
3 Swords to Plowshares

1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Treasure Cruise
1 Dig Through Time
1 Ponder
1 Brainstorm
1 Senseis Divining Top

4 Force of Will
4 Mental Misstep
2 Flusterstorm
2 Mana Drain

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Library of Alexandria
4 Flooded Strand
2 Scalding Tarn
1 Arid Mesa
2 Island
1 Plains
1 Plateau
3 Tundra
2 Volcanic Island

SIDEBOARD
4 Grafdiggers Cage
2 Surgical Extraction
2 Ingot Chewer
2 Disenchant
1 Steel Sabotage
1 Sudden Shock
1 Izzet Staticaster
1 Supreme Verdict
1 Engineered Explosives

So I squeaked into 8th seed in the top 8...

T8 vs Dave Kaplan on UW Delver Mentor. Game 1 I have an active Library for most of the game and bury him in card advantage.
Game 2 I have Swords for his turn 1 delver as well as Jace fueled by Lotus and Mox. Again he is buried in card advantage.

T4 vs Branson Dempsey on Dark Depths shops
Game 1 is a back and forth battle but he gets smokestack going and eventually the 20/20 arrives and wrecks me.
Game 2 we are in mid game at a weird standstill. I have dack at 2 (stole map and then ramped him) Stoneforge and a Batterskull with no token in play. At the end my turn Brandon makes a 20/20 with the stage depths combo. He also has Crucible in play. I use surgical extraction to remove his dark depths from his deck, then use Snapcaster Mage to flashback Swords to Plowshares and kill the 20/20. I ride that game to victory.
Game 3 I mulligan to 6 including Chewer, Walk, 3 lands, and Pearl. I scry into Lotus and keep it there as maybe I'll get to hard cast Chewer or ramp onto something thereafter. Branson has a slow hand of double Sphere and Crucible but nothing else to compliment Crucible. I grind out a win in convincing fashion.

Finals vs Hank on BK Mentor
Game 1 I keep a hand of, Emerald, Top, Misstep, Recall, 2 FOW, Ponder. I don't draw a land for turn but I have t1 top and then upkeep top for a land the following turn. I don't hit land following turn. When I hit my land on turn 3, Hank had gotten so far ahead with his hand so it wasn't much of a battle. Clique gets an honorable mention getting hank down to 3 life...
Game 2 I am forced to keep a 1 lander. It has 2 Stoneforge Mystic, Force of Will, Mana Drain, Mental Misstep, Tarn, Flusterstorm. Hank again has a really strong hand involving Recall with multiple counters. I don't hit a 2nd land until turn 3 again. He ends up casting a sylvan library and I have Drain and Force for it. But Hank has 2x fow and 2 blue cards. It turned out his hand had another Force and Flusterstorm in it still. I was over matched vs some powerful magic hands and sometimes that happens. Congrats Hank.

Conclusion. Fun event, great store, great friends, I love the deck, and I banked 200 and put that towards and English Moat I've been wanting to get! Thanks to Joey Manner and TOGIT πŸ˜‰

If Deluge is getting countered, oath generally isn't and vice versa. Keep testing and tweaking is my best advice

I just think in order to go landstill route at all, you need more main deck removal. Because if they land a threat before you play Standstill, you'll need a removal or oath. I'd definitely start there...good luck!
